B.C. Emerges as a Global Life Sciences Leader

British Columbia is rapidly gaining recognition as a global life sciences hub—Canada’s fastest-growing and third largest. Over the past 15 years, the province’s biotech subsector has attracted more than $15 billion in deals and investments, fueling innovations that are transforming health worldwide.

In 2025, Vancouver-based Acuitas Therapeutics enabled the world’s first personalized CRISPR treatment, placing B.C. science at the forefront of precision medicine. Other local leaders are driving new frontiers: Aspect Biosystems and VoxCell BioInnovation are pioneering advances in bioprinting technology, while companies across the region are applying artificial intelligence to accelerate drug discovery and improve patient care. AbCellera advanced two therapeutic candidates into the clinic, WELL Health set new revenue records, and Kardium earned FDA approval for its Globe® Pulsed Field System to treat atrial fibrillation.

Zymeworks, recognized as the 2025 Life Sciences BC (LSBC) Company of the Year, advanced multiple pipeline milestones through partnerships with Jazz Pharmaceuticals and BeOne Medicines Ltd. (formerly BeiGene, Ltd.). These included regulatory approvals for Zanidatamab from both the FDA and Chinese authorities—further proof of B.C.’s global impact.

An Ecosystem Built for Breakthroughs

B.C.’s success is powered by a strong ecosystem combining research excellence, clinical expertise, and entrepreneurial energy. This integration ensures discoveries move quickly into real-world applications. LSBC plays a central role as catalyst and connector, delivering programs like the Investor Readiness Program, Growth Catalyst Program, and Business Development course with Novateur Ventures. These initiatives match emerging companies with mentors, investors, and cross-border opportunities vital for scaling globally.

Connecting to the World

The Invest in BC conference has become an international platform for growth. Now in its tenth year, Invest in BC will be held October 28–29, 2025 at the Vancouver Convention Centre, offering an invaluable opportunity to build relationships, attract capital, and expand new networks. LSBC also works closely with government partners, including Trade Commissioners and Global Affairs Canada, to lead delegations to global gatherings such as the JP Morgan Healthcare Conference, BIO International, and BIO-Europe.

Defining the Future

B.C.’s momentum is undeniable. From breakthrough technologies to international market success, the province is not only contributing to the global life sciences community—it is helping define its future.
