Strengthening Quebec’s Leadership in Life Sciences

BIOQuébec: The voice of the industry

BIOQuébec is a non-profit association, entirely financed by its members. Today, it represents 320 companies and organizations active in Quebec’s life sciences and health technologies industry.

Quebec has a long history in drug development and health innovation with a compelling track record in science and corporate success. It is home of global leaders in CRO/CDMO services and ranks among the top 5 hubs in North America for key indicators evaluated by Montréal InVivo, including economy, innovation, talent and costs.

Quebec’s life sciences strategy: A framework for growth and global competitiveness

Quebec was the first province in Canada to adopt a dedicated life sciences strategy, demonstrating early recognition of the sector’s importance for both economic development and public health. The most recent 2022–2025 Québec Life Sciences Strategy is built around three clear priorities:

  1. Attracting the highest level of private investment in Canada to accelerate growth and innovation.
  2. Developing future-oriented industrial sectors, including mRNA, AI applied to diagnostics and health, precision medicine, cell and gene therapies, and the development of biologics, including vaccines.
  3. Expanding the presence of Québec companies in local and international supply chains, ensuring they are well positioned to compete and grow globally.

Moreover, Quebec’s AReNa Hub is a major initiative that is strengthening even further the position of the Quebec ecosystem in the important and promising field of RNA therapies.

Collaboration to enhance opportunities

To complement this provincial leadership, BIOQuébec advances collaboration agreements across Canada. Strengthening interprovincial partnerships is essential to driving innovation, resilience, and new opportunities in the life sciences sector. Initial formal agreements with Life Sciences BC (LSBC), Life Sciences Ontario (LSO), and the Bioscience Association of Manitoba (BAM) enable companies to scale, thrive, and compete on a national stage.

Beyond Canada, BIOQuébec also maintains strong ties with U.S. partners, including MassBio, BioNJ, the Maryland Tech Council, and BioFlorida. These collaborations open new pathways for connection, resource sharing, and expanded access to funding and markets, broadening opportunities for Québec life sciences companies to reach further and grow stronger.

By leveraging these networks at home and abroad, BIOQuébec helps create unique opportunities for growth and success among its members. Looking even further afield, BIOQuébec is actively building collaborations with European partners, reinforcing international relationships and opening new avenues for innovation.
