BioAlberta Celebrates Global Biotech Week at the Annual Health and Life Sciences Showcase and Awards Gala

On Thursday, September 25th, BioAlberta’s annual Health and Life Sciences Showcase and Awards Gala engaged, inspired, and celebrated Alberta’s life sciences ecosystem. The afternoon was filled with collaborative panel discussions on important and relevant topics including utilizing Al technology to improve patient care, discussing the necessity of breast cancer detection and prevention, determining the factors to successfully enter global markets, and improving access to healthcare in rural and remote communities in Alberta. The energy and emphasis to take action as an ecosystem was compelling to the leaders, innovators, and investors that attended each panel.

To launch the Health and Life Sciences Showcase 2025, BioAlberta and MNP released with 2025 State of the Industry Report. An overview of the contributions and economic impact that Alberta’s life sciences ecosystem has on Alberta’s economy, the 2025 State of the Industry highlighted successful statistics. In 2025, the ecosystem contributed $4.770 billion to Alberta’s economy, which created 34,000 new full-time jobs. The continued growth of the life sciences ecosystem in Alberta is noticeable. This year’s State of the Industry Report acts as a statistical success story for this sector and deserves to be celebrated.

Following a successful afternoon of panel discussions and the release of the State of the Industry Report, we celebrated with the 2025 Achievement Awards Gala. Tim Caulfield, esteemed law professor and author, was this year’s keynote presentation.

Caulfield engaged the audience in an important conversation surrounding misinformation and the impact it has on our healthcare sector. His presentation was thoughtful and entertaining, and reminds us all that the information and science behind decisions to protect public health are important.
